|Throughout the history of Islam, the words of the Prophet ﷺ have remained a source of inspiration and guidance that drove Muslims to reach uncharted pinnacles and peaks. A thirst for knowledge engendered scholars resorting to writing on whatever material was available to hand, whether that be the hide of an animal or the bark of a trunk. The sincere efforts of the ʿUlamaʾ culminated into the preservation of a corpus of literature on the plethora of scholarly traditions in Islam which Muslims benefit from till this day.
With the advent of modern press and publishing, the literary heritage of Islam was revived through the proliferation and dissemination of traditional knowledge amongst the masses. The Late Ottoman Period witnessed various publishing houses cropping up throughout the Caliphate. Most notably, of course, were the printing presses in the Bulaq quarters of Cairo, Egypt, where some of the first critically edited editions of Imam al-Bukhari’s ‘al-Jamiʿ al-Sahih’ were printed under the patronage of Sultan ʿAbd al-Hamid II.
During this time, many scholars took it upon themselves to enter the world of modern publishing and critically edit the works of their forefathers, preventing any distortion or misrepresentation of this heritage. Amongst them was the Palestinian scholar, Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani who dedicated his life to serving and defending Islam. Exerting himself in the Way of Allah, Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani spent many years working at the Jawanib Editorial in the Caliphate’s Capital, Istanbul. Upon gaining a vast portfolio of experience, Imam al-Nabhani dedicated the rest of his life to becoming one of the most prolific authors who authored several works on the Blessed Prophet ﷺ
Over the years, Dar al-Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani’s head office and research centre has become fertile ground for producing critical editions of classical texts as well as research papers on an array of topics. Hosted within this humble institute is a panel of scholars who are counted amongst the students of some of the most senior ulama of recent times, to name a few;...
In 2015, Dar al-Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani (DIYN) was established as a specialised Arabic publishing house in Beirut, Lebanon. With an aim to preserve, revive and propagate the largely neglected works of the Sunni tradition, DIYN has—by the Will of Allah—released several monumental publications. To name a few:
Khulasa al-Bayan fi Ba'd Ma'athir Mawla-na al-Sultan 'Abd al-Hamid al-Thani wa Ajdad-hi Al 'Uthman, by Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani
A succinct text by Imam al-Nabhani in defence of the Caliph, Sultan ʿAbd al-Hamid II during the Tanzimat period when many tried to malign his character. This edition by DIYN features an exclusive introduction by the grandson of the late Sultan and current head of the House of Osman, Harun Osmanoglu.
Al-Budur al-Jaliyya fi Sharh al-Sanusiyya, by Shaykh Badr al-Din al-Hasani
Most of the works of Shaykh Badr al-Din—often known as the ‘Greatest Muhaddith’ [al-muhaddith al-akbar]—were unfortunately lost in a fierce fire at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, Syria. DIYN sought out to unearth what remained from the works of this erudite scholar. For the first time, DIYN published Shaykh Badr al-Din’s commentary on a didactic versification of Imam al-Sanusi’s primer in creed, ‘Umm al-Barahin’.
Al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab, by Shaykh 'Abd al-Ghani al-Ghunaymi
The Hanafi School has produced some of the greatest works on Fiqh which the Muslim Umma has benefited from. However, most of these works remain unedited and often rife with mistakes. In serving the Hanafi Tradition, DIYN printed a rigorously edited edition of ‘al-Lubab’ which has been warmly welcomed by students throughout the Muslim world studying traditional courses (e.g., Dars-i-Nizami/ʿAlimiyya).
Al-Shama'il al-Muhammadiyya, by Shaykh 'Abd al-Rasul al-Gujrati
Gujrat has been fertile ground for generations of great scholars of Islam, with many great works in Arabic being produced from this Subcontinent region. This work was printed for the first time ever by DIYN after finding lost manuscripts. The work discusses the Prophet ﷺ and his blessed character and traits in a single compendium.
Rajm al-Shayatin bi-Radd Ughlutat al-Barahin, by Shaykh Ghulam Dastagir al-Qasuri
When Mirza Ghulam al-Qadiyani forwarded his unbelief claim of prophethood, the scholars of Islam fulfilled their obligations to the Umma by refuting the heresies forwarded by this Dajjal. Interestingly, the first ever work authored in the Arabic language dismantling the Qadiyani claim to prophethood was authored by Shaykh Ghulam Dastagir al-Qasuri. This work remained unprinted for over a century until this new, critically edited edition was printed by DIYN for the first ever time.
